Ash Speech

Ashley’s Best Man Speech Hi, Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen - For those of you who don't know me my name is Ashley, Dave’s son and today I am also his best man. I have never been a best man before, and I am not renowned for my speech writing, But I’ll try my best, cause my Dad said if I do a good job today, I can be Best Man at his next wedding, too!?! No seriously, it is truly a great honour to be my father’s best man, but in all honesty I was feeling really nervous earlier, so I prepared a few lines and now I have to say I’m feeling pretty good right now!?! Anyway, on with the speech, and I will try my best to keep it short… First, let me start off by saying that NELLIE looks absolutely stunning today and it is a real pleasure to welcome her, Bryony and Belle into our family. Secondly, I would like to thank all the bridesmaids who not only look beautiful but also have made sure that Nellie got here in one piece! Thirdly, I would like to thank all of you here for coming and sharing Nellie and Dad’s very special day. And to my Dad, words cannot express how happy I am for you. Congratulations. You deserve this because you are the greatest father I’ve ever had! I am so very proud of you and I am sure you and Nellie will be very happy together Since I've never been married, I asked some of my mates to give me some advice and help me write the toast. So, here goes: “in a happy marriage, the husband expects the wife to cook, clean, do the laundry, walk the dog, pack the kid's lunch every day, and look stunning when the husband gets home from work. The husband's job is to thank his lucky stars that the wife keeps him around. Congratulations, Dad and Nelly - I wish you many happy married years ahead, and I wish for me many packed lunches!" Now, before I finish up I would like to read out a few telegrams and cards sent by friends and family who can’t be with us here today……. To Dave: “We could have been so good together I will miss our nights by the pool - lots of love, Michael Barrymore.” And “Congratulations on your special day we will miss you” love all the girls at the fantasy lounge XX” And to Nellie: “It was nice while it lasted, but I guess we’ll have to call it a day now you’re married. I will miss you, Love from Brad Pitt XXX” “Nelly, if it all goes belly up, then please call me” love George Clooney xxx And finally, “Curses, Dave wins again” love Cockney Chris xxx Well I won’t keep you any longer because I know my Dad’s dying to buy you all a drink at the bar. So, Ladies and gentlemen, it gives me immense pleasure, not to mention relief, to invite you all to stand…… and raise your glasses in a toast to my Dad Dave and Nellie, the new Mr and Mrs Wilkes who we wish well for the future, and hope they enjoy a long and happy marriage…….
